The IAGMH Annual award will be a competition for the best original research in geriatric mental health. There will be three awards (Ist, IInd and IIIrd). Only members of IAGMH are eligible for contesting for these awards. The principal author and at least 2/3 of all the authors should be members of IAGMH. Each award comprises of a certificate and award money; Rs. 25,000, Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 10,000 respectively for the Ist, IInd and IIIrd awards.

Members desirous of contesting for the awards should submit a soft copy of the full paper to the Chairman, Awards Committee, as per the last date specified for that year. In addition to the covering letter, all the authors of the award paper have to submit an undertaking duly signed by all the authors that they are aware about the submission of the paper and that they are aware of the content of the paper (format as per the contributor’s form available in the JGMH website) and agree to the clause that if their paper wins the award, then the paper will be published in Journal of Geriatric Mental Health, the official journal of the Association.
The Chairman of the Awards Committee will intimate to the principal author in writing about the receipt of the paper for the IAGMH award. The Chairman, Awards Committee, will examine the papers to confirm that they fulfill the eligibility criteria for contesting for the awards. Only the papers found to meet the eligibility criteria will be processed.

Evaluation: The format for submitting the award papers should be as per ‘Instructions for authors in Journal of Geriatric Mental Health’. The papers found eligible for contesting for the awards will be evaluated by a committee of 5 experts independently, for evaluation of the content. The experts would be professionals in the area of Geriatric Mental Health with high integrity, nominated by the Chairperson, Awards Committee and preferably should represent each zone.

There will be a total of 100 marks allotted to each paper, 75 for theory and 25 for presentation.

The theory experts will assess the papers objectively on the following parameters; each will be assigned 15 points. The total marks shall be 75.

  1. Topic, hypothesis & conceptualization of the work
  2. Methodology, Review of literature and references
  3. Observations, results and discussion
  4. Conclusions and implications for Geriatric Mental Health
  5. Elegance of writing, clarity, lucidity and overall presentation

A maximum of 5 papers will be selected for oral presentation, among the highest scorers of the theory
evaluation. These papers will go on to compete for the oral presentation at the annual conference of the said year. There will be 3 judges to judge the oral presentation at the time of the conference. A total of 25 marks will be awarded, judged on the following parameters:

  1. Presentation of relevant literature (6 marks)
  2. Clarity of slides, tables, results and discussion (6 marks)
  3. Ability to defend hypothesis and answer questions (6 marks)
  4. Overall impression and lucidity of presentation (7 marks)

The award winners will be decided according to a total of the theory and oral marks obtained. The first three highest scorers will be given Ist , IInd & IIIrd prize in order of merit, In case of a tie, only two awards would be given as applicable, and the prize money would be equally divided among the award winners.
