Award Rules

Prof. (Dr.) Shiv Gautam Oration Award in Geriatric Mental Health:

It is one of the most the most prestigious awards of IAGMH. Only members of IAGMH are eligible for contesting for this award. The award consists of a medal, a certificate and a cash prize of Rs. 10000.
Nominations for the award are to be invited in the first announcement of GERON for the said year. They interested member may directly apply, or may be nominated by another member of IAGMH. Members desirous of contesting for the award should submit a soft copy of the Nomination (Name of nominee, Name of award, biodata of nominee along with a detailed list of publications in geriatric mental health) to the Chairman, Awards Committee.
Evaluation: The biodata and research publications of nominee (s) will be evaluated by a team of 3 senior experts, from the field of Geriatric Mental Health. The experts shall be nominated by Chairman Awards Committee. They will scrutinize the submissions, and award marks on the basis of the following ( total 50 marks):

  1. Qualifications/Credentials in the field of Geriatric Mental health(10)
  2. Biodata/ Resume(10)
  3. Research publications in geriatric mental health(20)
  4. Overall contribution to geriatric mental health in India(10)

The nomination adjudged as the best by independent judges will be announced by Chairman Awards Committee, prior to the conference, and shall be invited to deliver the oration.

IAGMH – INTAS Awards:

The IAGMH-INTAS award will be a competition for the best original research in geriatric mental health. There will be three awards (I st , II nd and III rd ). Only members of IAGMH are eligible for contesting for these awards. The principal author and at least 2/3 of all the authors should be members of IAGMH. Each award comprises of a certificate and award money; Rs. 25,000, Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 10,000 respectively for the I st , II nd and III rd awards.
Members desirous of contesting for the awards should submit a soft copy of the full paper to the Chairman, Awards Committee, as per the last date specified for that year. In addition to the covering letter, all the authors of the award paper have to submit an undertaking duly signed by all the authors that they are aware about the submission of the paper and that they are aware of the content of the paper (format as per the contributor’s form available in the JGMH website) and agree to the clause that if their paper wins the award, then the paper will be published in Journal of Geriatric Mental Health, the official journal of the Association.
The Chairman of the Awards Committee will intimate to the principal author in writing about the receipt of the paper for the IAGMH award. The Chairman, Awards Committee, will examine the papers to confirm that they fulfill the eligibility criteria for contesting for the awards. Only the papers found to meet the eligibility criteria will be processed.

Evaluation:

Evaluation: The format for submitting the award papers should be as per ‘Instructions for authors in Journal of Geriatric Mental Health’. The papers found eligible for contesting for the awards will be evaluated by a committee of 5 experts independently, for evaluation of the content. The experts would be professionals in the area of Geriatric Mental Health with high integrity, nominated by the Chairperson, Awards Committee and
preferably should represent each zone.
There will be a total of 100 marks allotted to each paper, 60 for theory and 40 for presentation.
The theory experts will assess the papers objectively on the following parameters; each will be assigned 12 points. The total marks shall be 60

  1. Topic, hypothesis & conceptualization of the work
  2. Methodology, Review of literature and references
  3. Observations, results and discussion
  4. Conclusions and implications for Geriatric Mental Health
  5. Elegance of writing, clarity, lucidity and overall presentation

A maximum of 5 papers will be selected for oral presentation, among the highest scorers of the theory
evaluation. These papers will go on to compete for the oral presentation at the annual conference of the said year.
There will be 3 judges to judge the oral presentation at the time of the conference. A total of 40 marks will be awarded, judged on the following parameters, of 10 marks each:

  1. Presentation of relevant literature
  2. Clarity of slides, tables, results and discussion
  3. Ability to defend hypothesis and answer questions
  4. Overall impression and lucidity of presentation

The award winners will be decided according to a total of the theory and oral marks obtained. The first three highest scorers will be given I st , II nd & III rd prize in order of merit, In case of a tie, only two awards would be given as applicable, and the prize money would be equally divided among the award winners.

Smt. Shweta Tiwari Memorial Young Researcher Award in Geriatric Mental Health:

This is an award for young researchers, comprising of a medal, a certificate and a cash prize of Rs. 10000.

The applicants should have at least one previous publication in Geriatric Mental Health and should be less than 45 years of age on the last date of submission of the award paper. Only members of IAGMH are eligible for contesting for this award. The current work submitted for the award should be unpublished, original research.
Members desirous of contesting for the awards should submit a soft copy of the unpublished paper to the Chairman, Awards Committee. In addition to the covering letter, all the authors of the award paper have to submit an undertaking duly signed by all the authors that they are aware about the submission of the paper and that they are aware of the content of the paper (format as per the contributor’s form available in the JGMH website), as well as the proof of birth of the principal author. The authors also must agree to the clause that if their paper wins the award, then the paper will be published in Journal of Geriatric Mental Health, the official journal of the Association.

The papers found eligible for contesting for the awards will be evaluated by a committee of 5 experts independently, for evaluation of the content. There will be a single award given to the highest scorer, and in case of a tie, the prize money would be divided equally among the winners, and both would receive certificates and medals.

Common note for all awards:

The Prof. Shiv Gautam Oration winner will receive the award in the inaugural function (medal, certificate and cash prize) the same year. The IAGMH- INTAS award winners and the Shweta Tiwari Memorial award winner will be announced in the valedictory function. The Shweta Tiwari Memorial Award and IAGMH INTAS Awards will be presented in the inauguration function of the next GERON i.e., annual conference of IAGMH.
All papers would automatically become the property of the Journal of the IAGMH i.e., JGMH and would be
published in the same.

Dr. Charles Pinto Poster Presentation Award :

This award has been instituted in memory of Dr. Charles Pinto for the best Poster Paper Presentation based on the original work done in India in the field of geriatric psychiatry by a member (Principal author) within 5 years of completing his/her Post Graduate study (DPM, MD,DNB, DM) on any aspect of psychiatry. The principal author must be below 35 years of age.( till the last date of submission of abstract)

RULES:

  • For a Poster paper to be considered for the award, it shall be necessary for the principal author to submit the abstract [maximum 300 words] of the paper to the Chairperson, Awards Committee.
  • The abstract should contain the aims/objectives, methodology, results and conclusion.
  • The principal author and 50% of the authors must be members of IAGMH. The principal author must
    submit a letter from the concerned Head of the department, mentioning the period of PG course under him/her, place and period of study and proof of age.
  • A panel of 3 judges shall rate the poster papers at the time of the conference. The papers securing the highest total marks (out of 100) shall win the award, subject to ratification by the awards committee. In case of a tie, the concerned papers shall be declared the joint winners. To win an award not less than 50% of the full marks must be obtained by a paper.
  • The posters will be assessed as per guidelines laid down under the following headings:
    a) Topic, hypothesis & conceptualization of the work
    b) Methodology, Review of literature
    c) Presentation of results and discussion
    d) Conclusions and implications for Geriatric Mental Health
    e) Clarity, lucidity, precision of language and overall elegance of the poster
  • An award money of Rs.5,000/- and a certificate will be given to the authors of the winning poster. All the
    authors will be considered to have won the paper.
  • All papers received for the award fulfilling the above mentioned criteria will be eligible for competing for that year’s award. However, a paper or substantially the same paper can not be submitted to other awards of that year, and if found to be so the member will be debarred to contest for any of the awards of that year. Also, the paper or substantially the same paper should not have won any of the IAGMH awards during any of the previous years. The paper should not have been published in any of the journals. No more than two papers where a particular member appears as an author or co-author shall be submitted for this award in a year.
  • Top 8-10 papers will be selected for presentation during the conference.
  • Poster guidelines:
    i. The size of the printed poster should be: 1 X 1.5 Sq. Meters if digital facility is not available. 
    ii. Space the information proportionally
    iii. Use large text (the text should be at least 18-24 pt.; headings 30-40 pt.; title: 72pt.
    iv. Choose colours carefully and pay attention to contrast.
    v. Cropping, Margins and Spacing: All edges and margins should be straight and even.
    vi. Appropriate spacing between words, sentences and paragraphs to avoid overcrowding and clarity
  • Posters should have the following information:
    a. Title (with authors and affiliations); 
    b. Introduction / Objectives / Aims
    c. Methods
    d. Results
    e. Conclusion
    f. References
  • No computers or extra aids may be used during a poster presentation.
  • Poster should be placed at the allotted places at least 2 hours prior to the poster session and can be
    removed by 1pm on the same day.
  • Keep your poster presentation to 15 minutes per visitor/judge (10 min discussion & 5 min query session).
  • Each poster can be presented by maximum 2 presenters during the poster evaluation by judges.
  • Carry your poster to the meeting, using tubular packaging or a portfolio case.
  • Rejected posters abstracts shall not be submitted again at any conference of the IAGMH. 
    No explanation will be given for rejected or non-winning abstracts or poster presentations.
  • Award will be declared in the valedictory function and will be given during the inauguration function of the next conference.
